Warmer weather and kitchen garden things

Suddenly it's warm, hot even - certainly more like July.

The hills in sunlight and cloud shadow yesterday.

The humble potato flower.

Ripe cherries, it was well worth netting the tree - for once the birds don't eat them and we do!

Runner Bean flowers.

Courgette flower.

Up and away

The young swallows are now flying. They swoop and soar and are bowled around by the wind. They communicate with their parents in a constant excited chatter and make frequent rest stops.

This little one was reluctant at first .....

..... but quickly gained the confidence to join the others.

Taking a break.

Full moon

Towards midnight a gentle wind whispers amongst the treetops and slowly rearranges the clouds to reveal a beautiful full moon.

Warmer

Today it is warm enough to practice being inscrutable whilst nestled amongst the long grass.

Wild Orchid time

The spotted Orchids are now in full flower.

Had a quick look to see how the swallows are doing and was absolutely amazed to see how much they have grown in just a few days - the nest is looking somewhat crowded.

Thursday things

Uncertain skies - the weather is not improving .....

Many baby swallows are now hatched. I hope they survive the long, unimaginable journeys ahead of them to return to us next Spring. This particular nest is a new one, the original is on the other side of the beam but was 'squatted' by sparrows!

Sugar Snap pea flower in the kitchen garden.

More Thursday things

As evening comes the clouds give way to patches of clear sky and a glimpse of the moon.

Things from a very wet day

So much rain. At this time of year the streams and pools are usually very low - not today. Towards evening the rain finally slows; now and again the sun even comes out. Rainbows half form and dissolve but are too fleeting to catch with the camera.

Dripping foxgloves.

An oak sapling.

The wet weather has brought out well camoflauged frogs.

Into July

Clover.

A lone Corn Marigold - I think it's here because small amounts of seed are probably left in the mixed corn we buy for the chickens

Birdsfoot Trefoil.

It's going to be a bit of a bumper year for apples. A small number fell in the natural 'June drop', but most have remained and are getting bigger it seems by the day.

At daybreak this morning.

Gorffenaf

As the first day of July fades the mists come curling in to form thick soft layers which soon blanket the hills. To the West the skies are clearing and low sunlight is caught in the treetops.
